Snow White and The Seven Dwarfsreleased over 85 years ago in 1937. The move was a standout during its time, making Snow White Disney's first princess in the fandom. And while everyone knows about Snow White's story of escaping her kingdom to hide from the Evil Witch, there are behind-the-scenes tidbits that aren't as wildly known.

Snow White will forever be known as Disney's first original feature film with amazing quotes and songs, but there are a few things that happened in the editing and animation room that fans of the original movie would be surprised by.

10/10 The Original Tale Is Much Darker

Prince Florian and Snow White in Snow White and the Seven Dwarves

InSnow White, Snow is chased away from her castle because the Evil Queen is after her. In the end, she's tricked by the queen (who's dressed as a witch) to eat a poison apple and can only be woken by true love's kiss. Only being able to be rescued by true love's kiss didn't age well, but the original tale was darker.

According to Beano, not only was Snow supposed to eat a poisoned apple but she was supposed to be poisonedthree times. "The evil queen tries to poison Snow White three times in total, and she even eats some of Snow White's organs after she thinks she's been killed," noted the site. As a Disney movie, this ending is unfathomable.

9/10 The Dwarfs Originally Made Snow A Bed

The Seven Dwarfs were given silly names and personalities but they were some of the most intelligent characters inSnow White. Without them, Snow wouldn't have been protected from the queen for as long as she was.

In the movie, Snow falls asleep in the dwarfs' bed, leaving them to sleep elsewhere. But there's a deleted scene that's now onYouTube of the dwarfs building Snow a bed so they could have theirs back. The dwarfs were seen cutting the wood from the forest, crafting, and designing it especially for her. As fans of the movie know, the scene wasn't added but it could have been a cute addition.

8/10 Snow White Wasn't Just A Big Deal For Disney, It Was A Big Deal For Film

Snow Whitewasn't just Disney's first princess or feature film, it was the first feature film in the history of film in America. According toWDW Magazine, Snow White was the"first full-length animated feature film" in the US.

The animated movie was also the first movie to have a soundtrack for sale. According to theWDW Magazine, "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was the first film in American history to come complete with a soundtrack album– prior to 1937-39 the idea of having a soundtrack to a movie on hand was largely unheard of."

7/10 One Of Snow's Most Known Features Could Have Been Different

Snow White is known for having raven dark hair and bright red lips. Her look is so iconic as the original Disney Princess that imagining her as looking different is unfathomable. However, there's a difference between her appearance in the film and the book.

Snow Whiteis based on the book of the same name by The Brothers Grimm. And while the story differs from Disney's depiction, so does Snow's look.History Collection proved that The Brother's Grimm described Snow as having blonde hair and blue eyes. This is a stark contrast to Disney's version, which has garnered so much attention.

6/10 Lucille La Verne's Trick To Make The Queen And The Evil Witch Sound Different

The Evil Queen falls to her death in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

Lucille La Verne is an American actress who was known for her fantastic voice acting work. Before voicing the Evil Witch and Evil Queen inSnow White, she was a voice inBabes in the Woods(1932) andA Tale of Two Cities.

InSnow White, La Verne had to make the Evil Queen's voice slightly different from the witch's. According toMental Floss, the way she achieved the difference was by "removing her false teeth." Removing her teeth gave her that crooked, evil difference that viewers hear.

5/10 The Movie Was Originally Too Dark For Young Audiences

Magic Mirror in Disney's Snow White

Not only was the Evil Queen supposed to poison Snow multiple times, but there were other dark features in the original film that almost made it too scary for Disney.

Although there are howling winds and evil-looking trees that poke and prod Snow as she's escaping the forest,The Vintage News noted that the queen was also supposed to give Snow a "suffocating bodice." The opening scene of the movie was also supposed to be witnessing the slow death of Snow's mom. Disney didn't want to have too many censored rules attached to its movie so they dropped some of those scenes.

4/10 The Queen And The Prince

InSnow White, Prince Florian doesn't have much screentime. It's hard to know how likable of a prince he is because he only appears at the start of the movie when he first meets Snow and later when he rescues her. However,The Vintage New s dropped another shocking plot twist that could have changed the outcome of the movie.

In a deleted subplot, the Evil Queen was supposed to be in love with the prince! As a way to keep the prince to herself instead of him ending up with Snow, the queen was supposed to capture him and keep him in her dungeon.

3/10 Walt's Wife Didn't Think The Movie Would Make It

As much as Walt Disney believed in his movies and had an iconic vision, he didn't always like his movies. And according toMental Floss, neither did his wife Lillian.

The website claimed Lillian thought the movie would "bomb." This could be because the movie was incredibly expensive to create and many thought the movie would be the demise of Disney. Some even called the movie "Disney's Folly" instead ofSnow White.

2/10 Walt Deterred Adriana Caselotti From Acting After Doing Snow White's Voice

Adriana Caselotti as Snow White posing with the book

With a live-action version ofSnow White on the horizon and Rachel Zegler being chosen as Snow, many wondered who voiced the original Snow White and what her career came to be after the film's success.

Adriana Caselotti was the actress, singer, and voice behind Snow White. However, according toCheatsheet, it's been rumored that Walt Disney "blacklisted" Caselotti so that Snow White's voice wasn't behind any other character... To make things worse, Caselotti was only paid $970 for three years of work and she wasn't even given official credit in the movie's credits. After not finding acting work, Caselotti turned to opera and sued Disney for more money.

1/10 Snow Wasn't Always So Innocent

The original Snow White drawing

What separates Snow White from other Disney Princesses like Aurora fromSleeping Beauty is how young she is. Snow is the youngest of the Disney Princesses at 14 years old, so Disney animators had to make her appear young and innocent.

However,History noted that Snow's original look was far more mature. "Snow White was drawn with red pouting lips, long eyelashes, and a much more provocative outfit (just look at that ankle!)," the site wrote. Disney wanted Snow to look her age and opted for a younger, non-sexualized look.
